Perspective is powerful. As a photographer, my point of view, the lens I put on my camera, and the point on which I focus, effect the image I see.
As Rich and I prepare to welcome a baby into our family, and I look at how unstable the world is, I find myself struggling against fear. Amidst the great insecurity that the world is facing, I fear we will be unable to protect and provide for the child. These thoughts are paralyzing if I let them ruminate in my heart.
This week, when I’ve felt fearful, insecure, or unsettled (about things big and small), I’ve been purposely trying to change my perspective. The Bible is the ultimate perspective changer. There is so much hope, so much security, and so much peace to be found in God’s Word. It truly is a lamp unto our feet and a light unto our paths. Below are a few perspective changers from the book of Proverbs that have encouraged my heart this week.
When I feel confused and discouraged
“Trust in the Lord with all your heart, And lean not on your own understanding; In all your ways acknowledge Him, And He shall direct your paths.” Proverbs 3:5-6
When I struggle to forgive
“Hate stirs up strife but love covers all sin.” Proverbs 10:12
When finances feel uncertain
“The Lord will not allow the righteous soul to famish, but He casts away the desire of the wicked.” Proverbs 10:3
When the world feels unjust
“The eyes of the Lord are in every place, keeping watch on the evil and the good.” Proverbs 15:3
When I am afraid
“The name of the Lord is a strong tower; the righteous run to it and are safe.” Proverbs 18:10
